Theatre...in your living room?

As the Edinburgh Fringe has so often reminded us...anywhere can be a venue. If there's chairs (or even a bench), a small corner where performers can do their thing and, most importantly, an audience, it's a theatre.

Years back, whenever Paul wanted to try out a new play, he'd bring it to his good friend, Phill, to try it out in front of his housemates. Just from the reaction of the five or six people attended, Paul could tell if something was working and would tweak accordingly before going public and actually charging for tickets. This soon grew into fully-fledged 'house tours', where Paul would perform a new show up to 12 times in different homes (he has a lot of friends, just sayin') as previews before fringes/tours. Quite often he performs on his mate's narrowboat.

These days, with theatres struggling, fringes wobbling under the weight of the pandemic, house shows are the norm. People want to see the show, have a good night out, whilst staying in, invite a few friends over, have a whole play performed in their living room. The performer gets a gig without having to worry about PR, flyering, cancellation fees if we all have to isolate. It's pressure-free all round yet still, given the uncertainty of the spaces, totally matches the chaotic DIY vibe that we at IBiC Productions totally thrive upon.

Fancy a play in your house one evening? Drop us an email and we'll sort something out!
